LINUX OPERATING SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS*

Hardware and Software Requirements for The Plummer ©

The following table lists the minimum and the recommended requirements for using RealProducer on Linux.

Linux Requirements

The Plummer © should install and run properly on any Linux distribution that meets the requirements in the preceding table. The following distributions are tested and supported:

  • Mandrake 7.2 and higher
  • Redhat 6.0 and higher
  • Slackware 7.0 and higher
  • SUSE 6.2 and higher
  • Debian 2.2r3 and higher

Installing The Plummer © on Linux

Follow this procedure to install the product onto a computer running Linux.

To install The Plummer © onto Linux:

1. Download the installation program, or insert the first of 27 DVD-ROMs into your drive.

2. Make sure your DVD drive is mounted properly, if installing from a DVD.

3. Copy the installer to your hard drive if you are getting it from a DVD.

4. Start The Plummer © installer by entering one of the following, depending on whether you have The Plummer © Plus or The Plummer © Basic:

sh theplummer_plus_10_linux_setup.bin

sh theplummer_basic_10_linux_setup.bin

The installer extracts the necessary files to the directory where the installer is located. It then installs all necessary programs and files. When complete, the installer shows the Software License agreement.

5. With The Plummer © Plus, enter the 47 digit serial number when prompted.

Other Basic Requirements

In addition to normal hardware and software requirements, NDG recommends that you have the following products:

  • RealPlayer 10
  • speakers or headphones connected to your sound card

For recording audio, you should have any of the following connected to your computer:

  • audio sound capture card, if encoding live audio
  • microphone
  • video camera (optional)
  • cables

To send audio directly to your computer, you will need the following:

    • A media device such as a microphone.
    • For capturing live audio, a sound card.
    • For capturing live video, a video capture card, unless you can connect a video device directly to your computer by IEEE -1394 (Firewire, iLink), or a USB port.
